Description
Kalmia Tiddlywinks, a pale pink mountain laurel.
Kalmia Tiddlywinks is a dwarf mountain laurel (0.80 m high) evergreen, bushy, rounded. Belonging to the family Ericaceae, this shrub of slow growth, is close to the rhododendrons. Its bright leaves remain dark green all winter. At the end of May, the Kalmia Tiddlywinks is covered with pink buttons with very characteristic geometric shapes that open to form beautiful flowers. These flowers, gathered in broad bunches at the ends of the branches, pale pink in color and white, have a very flared corolla resembling a cup.
This mountain laurel is a very hardy plant that can withstand temperatures of -34 ° C. It dreads limestone and must be planted in acidic, cool, moist but well-drained soil, enriched each year with potting soil or heather soil. Although it tolerates the sun in temperate regions, you will expose it to half-shade. Kalmia Tiddlywinks requires little maintenance. Trim it slightly after flowering.
Install it in your rock gardens or in your shrubbery in the company of rhododendrons, camellias, Enkianthus or other heather plants by varying the colors and the flowering periods. You will enjoy a composition evolving with the seasons.
