Description
Bougainvillea Elizabeth Angus, a flamboyant flowering.
Climbing plant, 5 to 8 m high, native to the tropical and subtropical regions of South America, the Bougainvillea Elisabeth Angus or Purple Bougainvillea is appreciated for its flowering colours flamboyant and generous. From April to October, it is covered with small white flowers, grouped by 3, trumpet-shaped, surrounded by an involucre of three large triangular bracts richly coloured with bright purple. Its dark green foliage, semi-evergreen, contrasts with the colour of the flowers.
Purple Bougainvillea calls for sunny exposure for optimum flowering. It is suitable for all types of soil, preferably well drained and enriched with humus. In winter, it tolerates temperatures of -2 to -8 ° C, but it is better to protect it against heavy frosts.
Palised along a wall or fence, the Bougainvillea Elisabeth Angus progresses thanks to its small hooks and ends up covering them with a sumptuous coat of colour. The care to be given to this plant is limited to watering, trellising, pruning twigs of the year and the removal of dried branches.
Whether you grow it in pots in the coldest regions or in the ground in the temperate regions, the Purple Bougainvillea will not stop, every summer, to impress you with its bright colours!
