The Betula pendula Royal Frost or Royal Frost purple birch is a very elegant ornamental tree whose white wood contrasts beautifully with the chocolate-hued foliage. It is distinguished by its well-branched pyramidal shape, by its beautiful purple leaves and by its decorative bark of immaculate white enhanced with shades of brown.

In April-May, the Betula pendula Royal Frost offers hanging clusters of light brown catkins and luminous deciduous purple foliage which, in the fall, takes on colors varying from orange-yellow to red. Its initially smooth bark exfoliates over time.

A robust and easy-to-maintain plant, the Royal Frost purple birch reaches a height of 5 to 10 m in adulthood for a width of 3 to 4 m and is ideal for beds, hedges or isolated. It is a very hardy tree that resists temperatures down to -30 °C. It thrives in the sun or in partial shade, in any type of cool soil rich in humus.

The Betula pendula Royal Frost is of interest in any season. It will do wonderfully planted alone or associated with other species with decorative bark.
