Description
Acer campestre Carnival, a magnificent variegated foliage.
Of European origin, the Acer campestre Carnival or Carnival Hedge Maple is a variety of small hedge maple, ideal for small spaces. Very appreciated for its green foliage variegated with creamy white, it happily illuminates gardens, whether planted alone or in a hedge.
Reaching a maximum height of 5 m for the same spread, the Carnival Hedge Maple grows quite slowly. It forms a small tree if it is grown on a single trunk or a bush with a dense, rounded shape. The flowers, very discreet, appear before the leaves. Very honey-producing, they are appreciated by bees. The young shoots are pink in spring, the lobed leaves turn green largely bordered with white in summer, they turn golden yellow in autumn. The fruits called samaras are noticeable with their reddish wings.
The Acer campestre Carnival is a hardy species that resists cold down to -25°C. Robust, it thrives in any type of drained soil, neither too dry nor too fresh, and tolerates limestone. Its variegated foliage, more sensitive, can burn if exposed to the burning sun, preferably install it in partial shade.
The Carnival Hedge Maple brings light and contrast to the garden, particularly in spring, summer and autumn. Planted alone, it attracts the eye. Planted in hedges, it will make an excellent shelter for foraging insects and birds.
