Description
Quercus robur Regal Prince, also known as Columnar English Oak Regal Prince, is a hybrid of Quercus robur fastigiata and Quercus bicolor. This oak is a columnar tree, it has a fastigiated port which gives it a unique and very decorative look.
The Columnar English Oak Regal Prince reaches a height between 12 and 15 meters and a wingspan of up to 5 to 6 meters in adulthood, it will reach 10 m high by 2 m of spreading after 10 years. Its dense foliage is one of its major assets. It is green above with a silver underside (bicolor) and takes on a beautiful orange hue in autumn. The foliage is characteristic of that of an oak, with green lobed leaves. Flowering occurs in May with catkins, which are followed by acorns in the fall.
In terms of hardiness, Quercus robur Regal Prince can withstand temperatures down to -30 °C. It can be planted preferably in full sun, but it can also accept semi-shaded areas. It should be planted in acidic to neutral, well-drained soil for optimal growth.
The use of this tree in alignment is ideal to highlight its slender silhouette, with a spacing of 2.5 meters between each tree. However, it can be planted alone for a decorative touch in your garden.
