Description
Cotoneaster Franchetii, decorative all year round.
Native to China and Tibet, Cotoneaster Franchetii of Franchet cotoneaster is a beautiful ornamental shrub with a dense, bushy habit and softly arching branches. It is used mainly for creating evergreen hedges.
Fast growing, Cotoneaster Franchetii reaches a height of 3 m when fully grown, with a spread of 3 to 4 m. In May-June, it reveals small pinkish flowers which are very melliferous. These are followed, from September to December, by numerous highly decorative berries, beautifully highlighted by dark green, silvery, downy foliage on the reverse. These fruits, measuring about 7 mm, are oval in shape and orange in colour, and are a delight to birds.
Franchet cotoneaster , hardy to -20°, grows in sun or semi-shade, sheltered from cold winds, in ordinary, filtering soil, not too dry, enriched with compost. It is an easy-to-grow shrub that helps to absorb air pollution. It can be pruned easily, even severely and repeatedly.
Cotoneaster Franchetii is the ideal shrub for a hedge, but it can also be used in a bed or in isolation. Decorative in all seasons, you will particularly appreciate its autumn and winter colours.
