Description
Deutzia gracilis Nikko, a remarkable white bloom.
Native to Japan, Deutzia gracilis Nikko or Slender deutzia Nikko is a small shrub with a compact habit, easy to grow. Its generous spring bloom of immaculate white and its decorative foliage in the fall make it a prime subject for your rock gardens and low beds. Not exceeding 0.50 m to 1 m high for the same spread, it is perfect grown in a pot.
Towards the end of spring, Slender deutzia Nikko offers numerous flower clusters measuring 15 cm in length. They are made up of small bells of a magnificent pure white, scented and honey-bearing, attracting a good number of pollinating insects. This white bloom is highlighted by deciduous, silvery green foliage, which turns burgundy red in the fall.
Very resistant, Deutzia gracilis Nikko accepts all soils, even limestone, on condition that they are very cool and require a sunny or partial shade situation. To bloom profusely, it needs constant humidity, but not excess. This shrub is disease resistant and requires little maintenance. In spring, cut the branches that have already flowered in half and cut the older ones in order to ventilate the plant.
If you want to make a low hedge or border, you can combine Slender deutzia Nikko with other small shrubs like Caryopteris and Weigelas nana.
