Variegated Japanese Andromeda
Pieris japonica Variegata
Description
Native to Japan, Pieris japonica Variegata or Variegated Japanese Andromeda is a small shrub, appreciated for its evergreen foliage that changes color as it develops and its great hardiness (down to - 25 ° C). The young shoots are initially pinkish-orange in color and turn dark green with white edges. Then very decorative flower buds appear all winter long which, in March-April, reveal abundant white bells in hanging clusters.
The Variegated Japanese Andromeda, with a rounded and compact habit, is a dwarf variety, it will reach a height of 0.90 m to 1 m for a width of 0.90 m, so it is ideal for decorating small spaces. It is also suitable for container culture. Plant known as heather earth, Pieris japonica Variegata does not support limestone, it settles in a preferably acidic soil, enriched with potting soil and peat. It appreciates a cool, well-drained soil, exposed rather to partial shade, sheltered from the wind.
Associated with other varieties of Pieris but also with heather earth plants such as azaleas and rhododendrons, Pieris japonica Variegata will wonderfully sublimate your flower beds, terraces and balconies.
