Origin Japan

The Berberis thunbergii is a shrub from Japan, this Berberis with deciduous green foliage. From May to June, small orange-yellow flowers streaked with red in bells, visited by pollinators, decorate it, followed by red berries which are very popular with birds in the fall and which will persist during the winter. With small thorns, the branches make the Berberis Thunbergii a very effective defensive hedge.

Japanese Barberry can reach 2 meters at its adult size, it resists cold up to 28 ° C! It can spread quickly over one or two meters, with many ramifications. Its dense, deciduous or semi-persistent foliage varies according to the season: from a green turning to orange, in the fall it becomes scarlet red!

Berberis thunbergii will grow quickly in ordinary or calcareous soil. It will thrive in a semi-shaded area. Do not hesitate to combine colors with other barberries to create a pretty hedge or a shrub!
