Tosa spirea Snowmound
Spiraea Nipponica Snowmound
Description
Appreciated for its late flowering, the Tosa Spirea Snowmound or Spiraea Nipponica Snowmound becomes spectacular in late spring: its elegant, arching branches fall under the weight of a superb cascade of pure white flowers. Resistant to disease and pests, this vigorous variety also benefits from a rapid growth rate which allows it to be enjoyed very quickly.
Medium sized and suitable for all gardens, Spiraea Nipponica Snowmound reaches 1.5 to 2 metres in height and 1 to 2 metres in width at maturity. This shrub has a spreading, drooping, bushy habit and deciduous foliage of a beautiful dark green with bluish tones, which turns golden yellow in autumn. It blooms generously in May and June on one-year-old branches. The white flowers, gathered in 4 cm corymbs, are a delight to the eye and to bees.
The Tosa Spirea Snowmound is suitable for both sunny and semi-shaded locations and can be planted in all types of soil. It can be planted between March and December, singly, in a bed or in a hedge. Once the last flowers have faded, the branches concerned are cut back by about a third of their length.
