Description
Native to China and Japan, Deutzia scabra is a magnificent shrub that crumbles at the beginning of summer under a shower of very fragrant white star flowers. Paired with other spring flowering shrubs, it will do wonders in your garden. Its beautiful reddish-brown bark which exfoliates in long shreds in winter makes it a decorative shrub almost all year round.
The Fuzzy Deutzia, whose habit is erect, dense and bushy, reaches 2 to 3 m in height for a width of 2 m. From May to July, it is covered with a profusion of flowers of a magnificent pure white, arranged in panicles 15 cm long, releasing a sweet scent reminiscent of the smell of honey. Very honeyed, they are regularly visited by bees.
Resistant down to - 25 ° C, Deutzia scabra thrives in any type of soil, cool, well drained and rich, sheltered from cold winds. It appreciates a sunny situation, but also accepts partial shade. Remember to water it well in summer. Prune it immediately after flowering by cutting down the older branches every year at ground level.
Fuzzy Deutzia is planted in isolation, in association in a clump. It is ideal for a flowering hedge.
Ideal for flowering hedge, 1 plant every 1.50 m in quincunx.
Resistant to diseases.
