Origin Netherlands

The Redcurrant Rovada or Ribes rubrum Rovada, is a very productive, self-fertile variety from the Netherlands. This bushy, non-spiny species produces long clusters of shiny red fruit up to 15 cm in July, which are very fragrant, juicy and slightly acidic.

Ribes rubrum Rovada has dense, medium-green deciduous foliage and can reach a height of 1.50 metres with a similar spread, and will take its place in a greedy hedge, against a wall or in a bed. Its particularly pleasing aesthetics make it an excellent choice for an ornamental garden. It can also be used in an orchard with its white-fruited counterparts or other fruit bushes.

The Redcurrant Rovada is undemanding, hardy (-20°C) and resistant to diseases (powdery mildew, downy mildew, anthracnose): it is easy to grow in any environment! It can be planted in the ground or in pots, in well-drained soil, ideally in a shady area. Flowering occurs in April-May and the rather late fruiting (end of July) is abundant and advantageous: the fruit can be kept on the bush for a long time and can be picked as and when required.
