Description
Originally from the Netherlands, the Ribes rubrum Rosetta or Redcurrant Rosetta is a very productive, late flowering variety of currant . The fruit ripens in mid-July. The shrub grows to a height of 1.25 to 1.50 m and is 1 to 1.50 m can be placed in a gourmet hedge, in the orchard or in a bed. It is a self-fertile, hardy variety (it can withstand cold temperatures of up to 18°C) and is not very demanding.
The flowering of the Redcurrant Rosetta takes place in April-May. It is followed by the appearance of long clusters of large, light red, rather acidic fruits. These currants are used to make coulis, sorbets, jams and jellies. They can also be eaten fresh.
Ribes rubrum Rosetta grows in sun or semi-shade in rich, cool, well-drained soil. It does not like drought. To keep it cool and moist, it is recommended to mulch the plant. In February, remove dead wood, old branches and aerate the centre of the plant.
By planting one or more currants in your garden, such as Blanka, Van tets, rovada or red lake, together with blackcurrants, raspberries or jostaberry, you can create very interesting fruit hedges full of flavour, so that you can enjoy tasty berries rich in fibre and vitamin C all summer long.
