Description
Cercis canadensis Forest Pansy is an ornamental tree with bushy port, also called Forest Pansy Redbud. Can reach 5 m as an adult, this tree has a short trunk. Cercis canadensis is native to North America. The Forest Pansy cultivar is distinguished by its amazing purple foliage, which it keeps all the beautiful season. Its heart-shaped leaves have this beautiful dark purple colour, which changes to yellow at the arrival of autumn. In early spring (March to April), small purple flowers appear. Their shape is typical of the legumes, of which the Forest Pansy Redbud is a part. The peculiarity of this flowering is that it develops on twigs of at least two years, highlighting the silhouette of the tree before the arrival of its foliage.
Very hardy by its origins, Cercis canadensis Forest Pansy can withstand winter temperatures reaching -25 ° C. It is also able to withstand short periods of drought. Forest Pansy is grafted onto a Cercis canadensis to make it more vigorous and resistant.
This tree likes in a fresh soil, drained and fertile. He enjoys a sunny exposure, sheltered from the prevailing winds.
