Malus 'Liset', also known as Crab apple Liset, is a shrub that captivates the eye from early spring. Its flowering is spectacular, with bouquets of very dark pink, almost red flowers, which bloom in April and May, offering a striking contrast with the emerging foliage. Its foliage is not to be outdone, intense purple as soon as it bursts, gradually transforming into bronze during the summer, before turning to a bright yellow in the fall, thus completing the chromatic cycle of this exceptional plant. The fruits, which appear after flowering, are just as decorative: small dark purple globes, 1 to 1.5 cm in diameter, hanging at the end of long stems, reminiscent of small cherries. These fruits are not only a feast for the eyes, but also attract a number of birds, adding life and animation to the garden until the first frost.

In terms of growth, Malus 'Liset' reaches a height of approximately 5 meters and a spread of 4 meters, allowing it to integrate harmoniously into various landscape compositions. Its hardiness is remarkable, withstanding temperatures down to -29°C, which makes it suitable for many climates and allows it to maintain its beauty despite the vagaries of the weather. The ideal exposure for Crab apple Liset is in full sun or partial shade, where it will be able to take full advantage of the conditions to develop its abundant flowering and its distinctive foliage.

For planting and growing Malus 'Liset', it is advisable to choose a well-drained location, as it is sensitive to stagnant water. Fertile, slightly acidic to neutral soil will promote healthy growth. Planting can be done in fall or spring, taking care to space the shrubs to allow them to fully blossom. Annual pruning is not necessary, but can be done to maintain the desired shape or remove dead wood. In terms of use in the garden, Crab apple Liset is perfect as an isolated specimen, in a group to create a mass effect or even in a row for a colourful flowering hedge. Its ability to attract wildlife and provide visual interest over a long period of time makes it a preferred choice for gardeners looking to add colour and life to their outdoor space.
