Description
The Malus toringo Brouwers Beauty, also called Crabapple Tree Brouwers Beauty, is distinguished by its lobed and toothed foliage, which takes on beautiful orange-yellow colours in autumn. In May-June, it displays abundant and fragrant flowering. The dark pink flower buds give rise to pale pink flowers when they bloom, then turning white over time. They are followed by small orange-yellow fruits to 1 cm, which persist for a long time on the branches and offer very decorative fruiting until December; this fruiting is a boon for birds. Note that like many flowering apple trees, the Crabapple Tree Brouwers Beauty is an excellent pollinator for early flowering fruit apple trees.
Malus toringo Brouwers Beauty is a recent cultivar, it was introduced in 1996 in the Netherlands. It is a slender tree, its main branch rises in a straight line to its top. Its shape is spread out like a fan and its branches hang down. It measures 6 meters high and 4 to 5 m wide.
The Crabapple Tree Brouwers Beauty is a hardy variety, which resists up to -29°C. It appreciates sunny or partially shaded exposures, and normal, fresh and well-drained soils. It tolerates urban pollution and sea spray well. It does not require any special pruning, except to remove dead branches. Resistant, we know of no enemies or diseases. It can be planted alone, in groups or as a free hedge. It brings a touch of originality and charm to the garden.
