Wim's Red Panicle Hydrangea ®: a firework of colors
The flowering of Hydrangea paniculata Wim's Red® is as spectacular as it is early. It occurs from the beginning of June and continues until September. The flowers of this shrub stand in perfectly pure white panicles when they open, then turn pale pink in July, before turning red in late summer, then burgundy red in the fall. The young wood and the petioles of the leaves are also coloured, a flamboyant red. In the fall, the dark green foliage changes colour in turn: it becomes orange-yellow and then bright red. From June to October, the Hydrangea paniculata Wim's Red® adorns the garden with its vibrant colours.
Wim's Red Panicle Hydrangea® is a very beautiful shrub with an upright, flared habit. When it reaches full maturity, it can measure 1.50 to 2 m in height and 1 to 1.50 m in spread. Its toothed, oval and ribbed leaves are deciduous. Its flowers are not fragrant and grow on the wood of the year. Hydrangea paniculata Wim's Red® is a hardy shrub that supports harsh winters and negative temperatures down to -30° C. It can be used both in beds, or in hedges, and as an isolated plant.
Hydrangea paniculata Wim's Red® appreciates neutral to acidic soils, which must be kept humid to ensure its perfect development. Before planting, work the soil well by adding heather soil. It is recommended to plant the Hydrangea in a sunny to semi-sunny corner of the garden to obtain the magnificent colour variations of its inflorescences and foliage. In order to encourage regrowth in the spring and maintain the shrub's stocky habit, it is best to prune it short at the end of winter.
