Description
Bamboo Pingwu is a non-invasive bamboo that forms dense, slender clumps. Its leaves are deep green and its culms are adorned with white sheaths that create a nice contrast. It can measure 3 to 5 m high and 1.5 to 2 m in pots and form clumps of 2 m in diameter. It adapts to all types of exposure, from sun to partial shade. It is ideal for creating hedges or beds that protect against the wind and view. Just plant one plant per meter and provide it with well-drained soil. Bamboo Pingwu is an easy-to-live-with plant that requires no special maintenance.
Bamboo Pingwu is a hardy plant, which resists cold down to -20 °C.
Bambou Fargesia Robusta Pingwu is a bamboo native to China, where it grows in mountain forests. It belongs to the genus Fargesia, which includes non-spreading bamboos, that is to say which do not produce invasive underground rhizomes. It is therefore simple to control and grow.
To plant Bamboo Pingwu, you must choose a place that is well exposed, but not too hot in summer. You must dig a hole at least 50 cm deep and wide, and put some potting soil or compost in it. You must then place the plant in the center of the hole, making sure that the collar (the base of the culms) is at ground level. It is then necessary to fill the hole with the extracted soil, packing well around the plant. It is necessary to water abundantly after planting, and to keep the soil moist during the first years, and a contribution of fertilizer in the spring will be beneficial to it. It is not necessary to put a rhizome barrier, because the bamboo Pingwu does not spread.
To create a Bamboo hedge, you need one plant per meter. Bamboo Pingwu has an upright, bushy habit, which allows it to form a dense, occulting hedge. Care must be taken to space the plants at least 80 cm apart to give them room to develop.
