Description
Quercus rubra Boltes Gold, an ornamental tree with luminous hues
Quercus rubra Boltes Gold is a rather rare variety of Northern red oak with yellow foliage. A large, vigorous tree with a rounded, spreading habit, it sports very decorative deciduous foliage in bright colours.
In spring, the Northern red oak Boltes Gold develops buds from which emerge young orange then golden yellow leaves, which, in summer, turn tender green. They then take on orange to bright red tones when autumn comes. Flowering in the form of catkins takes place in May, it is followed by acorns in autumn as soon as the tree has reached maturity.
The Quercus rubra Boltes Gold grows quite quickly, it will already reach after 10 years, a height of 5 m for a spread of 2 m. It will then rise, at most, to a height of between 8 and 12 m, for a spread of between 7 and 9 m. It is a rustic subject (it resists cold down to -25 °C). It likes an acid to neutral soil, but, to obtain more intense red colours in autumn, it is preferable to install it in a soil with an acid tendency. Prefer a sunny location to install it, because despite the fact that it has very light foliage, it does not burn in the sun in the middle of summer.
The Northern red oak Boltes Gold is an ornamental tree which will be well highlighted if it is planted isolated on a lawn.
