Description
Extremely productive, the Hardy kiwi vine female Ananasnaya or Actinidia arguta Ananasnaya, gives tasty fruit with a surprisingly pineapple-like taste and smooth skin, which can be eaten without peeling. This female variety is pollinated by the self-fertile Issai or male weiki variety.
The Hardy kiwi vine female Ananasnaya can withstand cold temperatures of up to -28°C. When fully grown, it reaches 3 to 4 metres in height and 1 to 2 metres in width. It has attractive deciduous foliage and creamy white flowers in May and June. It then bears small, elongated fruits, which are harvested between September and October. When ripe, the smooth, green skin of the kiwai is red on the side exposed to the sun. When tasted, the green, fragrant, soft and very sweet flesh is irresistibly reminiscent of pineapple.
