Diospyros Rhombifolia or Diamond-leaf Persimmon is a very rare fruit shrub with a compact habit, native to China. It has a tremendous capacity for adaptation as it is cultivated as much as a shrub in open ground, but is also highly sought after for cultivation in pots or to be grown as bonsai. It is decorative, with its glossy green foliage, but it is especially sought after for its small edible fruits. Diospyros rhombifolia is resistant to cold temperatures, from -12 to -15 ° C, and reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters for a spread of 1 to 1.50 meters.

The Diospyros Rhombifolia has twigs with a few fairly short thorns, and its shiny foliage takes a pretty golden hue then red in autumn. Its honey-bearing flowers are cream in color, they appear in spring, then fruit in very sweet orange berries in the shape of a pear of 2 cm. Highly appreciated for their astringent quality, these exceptional fruits are harvested in autumn. They stick to the branches even when its deciduous foliage has fallen.

The Diamond-leaf Persimmon thrives in neutral, moist and cool soil, with a sunny exposure. Slowly growing, however, it does require a light maintenance pruning before spring arrives.
