Description
The Prunus cerasus Oblaczynska or Sour cherry Oblacinska is a fruit shrub with a diffuse and very compact port branched from the ground, native to the Caucasus. Ideal for small gardens or in containers, this variety of cherry tree, self-fertile, reaching 2 to 3 m in height for a width of 1.50 m to 2 m, is cultivated for its numerous black fruits with small stone, of the same size as sour cherries. These fleshy cherries have a juicy, tangy and sweet flesh that is particularly interesting for making jams and brandy. Note that they are very easily pitted!
The flowering of the Sour cherry Oblacinska takes place in May, it is then covered with small white melliferous flowers which attract bees. It follows the appearance of fruits which are harvested from the month of June until the month of July.
Prunus cerasus Oblaczynska is very resistant to cold down to - 28 °C. It preferably settles in the sun or in partial shade in any type of soil, rich, cool and well drained. Maintenance pruning is sufficient to remove dead wood.
Branched from the base, harvesting the fruits of the Sour cherry Oblacinska is facilitated. To taste fresh, but also, to enjoy them for longer once they have been picked, put them in preserves, make liqueur or transform them into jams.
