Description
Actinidia arguta Jumbo or Hardy kiwi vine female Jumbo is a climbing fruit shrubnative to the Far East which is cultivated for its edible fruit, the "kiwai". We eat them with the skin, unlike their cousins, the kiwis with hairy skin. Their flesh is very sweet, fragrant and is particularly rich in vitamin C.
Voluble, the Actinidia arguta Jumbo can reach an adult 3 to 5 meters high for the same width. In May-June, small fragrant white flowers cover the vine. The fruits, mini-kiwis with smooth skin, are precocious. They can be harvested from September until October.
Cultivation of Actinidia arguta Jumbo is easy, it is the most hardy variety, it has a high yield and gives large fruits. It can be installed at the foot of a pergola or a solid trellis. Well-drained soil is important: under these conditions, it can resist down to -20 ° C, hence its name of hardy kiwi vine !
The female Actinidias arguta are not self-fertile, they are female plants which, in order to be fertilized, require the presence of a male plant nearby, such as the male Weiki (you can plant 5 females for 1 male). The fruits appear after 2 to 3 years, but be patient, because the vines then produce in profusion.
