Description
Rubus fruticosus Himalaya or Blackberry Himalaya produces round, shiny black, sweet and very aromatic fruits from July to August. This trellised fruit shrub is self-fertile. Its fruit is preceded in May and June by pinkish-white, honey-bearing flowers.
It can withstand sub-zero temperatures of -25 to -28 °C. It is disease resistant. When fully grown (after 3 years), it will reach a height of 2 to 3 m and a spread of 4 m. Its foliage is deciduous.
To be planted in sun or semi-shade in well-drained soil, it adapts to all types of soil.
Trimming is carried out in autumn, cutting back to ground level any stems that have borne fruit.
