Description
A self-fertile variety, the Thornless Blackberry Triple Crown or Rubus fruticosus Triple Crown is distinguished by its high productivity. Its very large fruits, each measuring 2 cm long and weighing 8 grams, are a delight to eat. Its thornless stems, vigour and good disease resistance make it particularly pleasant and easy to grow.
The Thornless Blackberry Triple Crown is cold resistant down to -20°C and can withstand harsh winters without a hitch. At maturity, it reaches 2.5 to 3 metres in height and 1 to 2 metres in width. From May to July, it displays a pink, honey-like bloom that attracts bees and foraging insects. Then come the huge, shiny black fruits. Juicy and firm, Rubus fruticosus Triple Crown blackberries are sweet and deliciously aromatic. They are harvested between the end of July and October, and between 5 and 10 kilos of fruit can be picked each season. They can be enjoyed in salads, jams and pastries.
The Thornless Blackberry Triple Crown appreciates neutral to slightly acidic soils, which are rather rich in humus. For optimal development, it should be pruned every year, after the last harvest or at the end of winter.
