Hardy kiwi vine female Ken's Red
Actinidia arguta Ken's Red
Description
Actinidia arguta Ken's Red, soft and sweet red fruits.
Actinidia arguta Ken's Red or Hardy kiwi vine Ken's Red is a female variety of kiwifruit, not self-fertile, which requires a male plant nearby such as the male Weiki or the self-fertile Issai to bear fruit. It produces large, smooth-skinned, red fruits with purple flesh in the centre. Juicy, they can be eaten as is from September to October, no need to peel them.
Vigorous and very productive, Actinidia arguta Ken's Red is disease resistant. A climbing fruit bush, it can quickly reach 3 to 5 m in height with a spread of 3 m. The dark green, oval-shaped leaves are very decorative and grow on red petioles. The white, pleasantly scented and nectariferous flowers in June attract foraging insects to the garden. It gives way to fragrant, sweet-tasting red kiwais, 3 cm long. Rich in vitamin C and trace elements, kiwifruit of Actinidia arguta Ken's Red can be eaten raw or cooked. They go well with both sweet and savoury dishes.
The Hardy kiwi vine female Ken's Red can withstand drought and pollution and is very hardy, withstanding temperatures of -23 to -28°C. Plant it in the sun to increase its productivity, in fertile, cool and well-drained soil. At the beginning of March, prune the branches that bore fruit the previous year.
