Description
Coffea Arabica, a tropical decorative plant.
The Arabian Coffee or Coffea Arabica, an evergreen shrub of the family Rubiaceae, is native to East Africa. Its foliage of a beautiful green shiny and embossed is very decorative. From May to October, it is adorned with pretty white flowers in the shape of very fragrant stars (scent close to that of jasmine flowers). These are transformed into round and shiny fruits called drupes, which progress gradually from green to yellow, then from red to black when ripe. Each of them contains two coffee beans. The fruit takes 6 to 12 months to ripen and is harvested red.
As the Arabian coffee tree is a tropical tree, it is afraid of frost and it is therefore appropriate to adapt its culture to our climate. This is why it is best to plant it in a large pot or in a tray that you place indoor (heated greenhouse, veranda, window sill) at a minimum temperature of 13 ° (ideally between 15 and 25 °). In summer, you will gradually take it out in the open air. You will install it in full light but without placing it directly in the sun, in a rich earth, kept cool but not soggy. To obtain a more compact plant and a more abundant flowering, you will top it at the 3rd or 4th bud.
You can make your own coffee by roasting the grains you have harvested. Good tasting !
