Description
Bamboo fargesia nitida Gansu is a non-spreading bamboo, with a dense, upright and straight silhouette and an umbrella-like drooping top. Its fine evergreen leaves are velvety to the touch, light green in spring, and gracefully cover its canes, which are 1 to 2 cm in diameter (when fully grown, after 10 years), and are bright purple, almost black in colour.
The Bamboo fargesia nitida Gansu is resistant to temperatures of -20 to -23°C, it grows rapidly and will reach a height of 2 to 3.50 m while its root ball will spread over nearly 2 m. It can be pruned without any problems to form windbreaks and privacy hedges, or planted as an isolated plant to form a beautiful clump in the middle of a lawn, or even placed in a bed to form a Japanese-style ensemble and bring lightness with its graceful leaves rustling in the wind. It can also be planted in large pots to decorate a terrace.
Plant the Bamboo fargesia nitida Gansu preferably in the shade or half-shade, with the foot in a neutral and well-drained soil. For a hedge planting, allow for a spacing of 60 to 80 cm for a bushy effect.
