Azaleas and rhododendrons are shrubs belonging to the Ericaceae family. These shrubs thrive in acidic, cool, well-drained soil. They offer abundant and varied flowering in spring, ranging from white and red to pink, mauve and yellow. There are many varieties to suit every garden situation, from beds to rock gardens to pots. Azaleas and rhododendrons come in all sizes, from the largest to the smallest, the dwarfs. They require very little maintenance and add a splash of colour to your garden with their dazzling blooms. Rhododendrons have evergreen foliage that is green all year round, while mollis or Knap-hill azaleas have deciduous foliage that turns coppery at bud-break, then red in summer for some and green to orange for others. In autumn, they turn burgundy red.
